Location and Facility
Our school building was formerly the old Army Reserve Building at 724 Foster Street in downtown Durham which we own.
This location, in Durham's Central Park, is in the center of a collection of Durham neighborhoods representing Durham's rich diversity. Within one mile are wonderful resources (YMCA , Public Library, Arts Council , among others) and we are excited to be a part of the growing vitality of Durham's Central Park.
Our facility is renovated to make the building safe, welcoming and functional for students, their families, teachers and staff. We are thrilled to be in a location that so actively unites the many threads of Durham's past, present and future.
Transportation
The Central Park School for Children will not operate a bus system.
Families will have transportation options, such as walking (including "walking school buses" where adults take turns walking with children, see www.walkingschoolbus.org), bicycling, public transportation (bus Rt. 4) and carpools. We will work with parents and surrounding neighborhoods to coordinate the best transportation method for their children, and we will teach our students the skills of safe walking and biking.
